A list of some comic books currently on Kickstarter. I think they all look pretty darn good myself. What do you think, reader?
The last Halloween: Book 1
This 432 page book by Abby Howard features beatiful black and white artwork that really suits the Halloween theme. If you have already read this then there's a bonus comic and extra illustrations included.
If you are not familiar with the webcomic then the story goes that every human has a monster counterpart , hidden away in a shadow dimension (I love different dimensions) that lies parallel to our own. One Halloween the monsters spill into our dimension and it is up to a 10-year girl named Mona and her band of friends to save the night.
There is a serious amount of cool goodies available to backers, including bookmarks, signed bookplates and custom drawings.
NESS: A Comic With Monsters
NESS is a Del Toro/Lovecraft-inspired cosmic story set on the shores of Loch Ness. A big scary monster movie in comic book form
I couldn't agree more. Well if I had read it then maybe I could actually agree more but what I have seen from their Kickstarter page it looks like they've nailed it.
The team comprises writer Chris Welsh (Liverpool based like me), illustrator Robert Carey, Colour artist Dee Cunniffe and lastly but certainy not least writer and letterer Robin Jones. It's basically the A-Team of comic books.
At the time of writing they had 50 hours to go and had made this goal but that's not a reason not to back them so back them!
Rewards start from only £2 for the digital file of the first isse and a mere £3. Total bargains.
Bastard Son: Murder Born
This is most definitely on the mature side of the comic book spectrum and it looks great for it.
Liverpool based writer, Frank T. Allen and artist Marco "Sbrillo" Fontanili have come together to produce 130 pages are pure fuckedupness.
I love the detail of the artwork on show here and the story from the beginning is a real ball-grabber (read the first chapter here if you don't believe me).
The story follows Ethan Welles, who as a child suffered terrible nightmares and now as a grown man the nightmares have returned and the figure that pursued him in those nightmares wont stop until it claims him. Also it isn't alone.
There's only 8 days to go and they a good few thousand to reach their goal so if this is something you feel you would like to read then I suggest you have a gander at the rewards on offer. This deserves to be made.
Take Only Photographs, Leave Only Footprints
It's a horror comic loosely based on true events in which the horror takes a surreal and bizzare form.
The story is based around around couple Ben and Kate and their return from a romantic trip to the beach. They bring something with them that they must return.
Written by Tom Smith and wonderfully illustrated by Katie Whittle the comic book is 70 pages long but this may increase as the project nears completion.
The Creators Vol 1: Imagination Is Power
Michael S. Bracco's graphic novel about young people who can bring their imaginations to life through their drawings and the consequences that follow. This is the type of ability that could come in real handy but also cause some mayhem.
Almost half way there with 25 days to go so head over to the Kickstarter page and see if it floats your boat.
